Ki-Yota

Born in 1976, Ki-Yota had a childhood and adolescence tinged music of all kinds including tango, waltz, jazz (played by his accordionist father), rock, metal, pop, dance and hip -hop.
Since 1993, his interest in electronic music has escalated which he initially discovered via his neighbor and after visiting techno events in major Swiss cities as Basel, Zurich, Bern and Biel as well as in Germany, and witnessing artists like Christian Vogel, Alec Empire, I-F, Dj Hell, Kenny Larkin, Robert Hood ... and a career influencing set by the legendary Jeff Mills in 1996; he decided it was time to start deejaying with the aim of bringing a touch of originality to its mixes.
After a year of attending illegal raves in forest and caves, he had a chance meeting in late 1998 with music artists from "No Future" collective. In 2000 at the huge "Millennium" event in Basel featuring headliners Jamie Lidell, Subhead, Justin Berkovi, Eva Cazal and many others ... It was on this famous evening that the leader of the band Subhead, Jason Leach, decided to create a label in Switzerland in collaboration with Andre Ferlin. Thus the label Mercurochrome was born. It counts among its ranks, artists such as Hi-Speed, Smooky, Nino Fight Smees, Ki-Yota, Fugo, Steady-P, Aster OH, and of course Jason Leach.
Ki-Yota was attracted to production through many of his friends, in 2001he creates his own songs using the program "Music 2000" for Sony’s Playstation 1. In 2002, with its 3 best friends Smees, Smooky and Nino Fight, they progressed to starting their own record label, Electronik Weed Crew.
Ki-Yota has Dj’ed alondside Jamie Lidell, Si Begg, Neil Landstrumm, Subhead, Dave Tarrida, La Monde, Tobias Schmidt, Dj Netik (DMC champion), Afrika Bambaata (the real) ... mixing in clubs such as The Prague (Neuheimat, DE), The Tresor (DE), La Coupole (CH), Les Fours à Chaux (CH), La Case à Chocs (CH), Le Golf (CH).
In 2007, Ki-Yota created his own label: ‘Ki-Yota’s Digital’ and released productions via Don’t Records (DON’T 13 EP) in 2008. He is now a well respected member of the Mutate Records family.
Ki-Yota’s performances are heady mix of electro and techno spliced with bassline madness, groove and energy, it becomes clear that deejaying is his true passion and is clearly visible.
His own creations are a little bit more complicated. But if you make the effort to open your heart, your soul and especially your ears, your senses will be touched by its original sound...
